EMAT Olympics

Now in its sixth year, the EMAT Olympics are back, supported by GB Olympians, with another fantastic programme of star-studded events across the East Midlands Academy Trust schools.

We launched this year's Olympics with a new event, the EMAT Cup football tournament. The event took place in April at Wollaston School and saw teams from Northampton International Academy, Prince William School and Wollaston School compete for the trophy.

Our biggest ever EMAT Torch Relay was next, starting on June 8th and bringing a host of Olympic stars to EMAT schools to lead the pupils in their fun run or walk. The special guests were Commonwealth Games gold medallist judoka Nekoda Smythe-Davis, Leon Greenwood, who competed for Team GB at this year's Winter Olympics in the bobsleigh competition, Paralympic archer Tania Nadarajah, hockey player Grace Balsdon, who scored the winning goal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games to secure the bronze medal for Team GB, and Paralympic gold medallist Laura Sugar MBE, who has competed in athletics, canoeing and hockey.

We also welcomed more schools than ever before to our annual Ability Games, this year at Hardingstone Academy on June 17th and bringing together 10 schools in a fantastic day of sport for pupils with additional needs. The children were joined by Great Britain and Loughborough Lightning Paralympic basketball player Siobhan Fitzpatrick, who will be getting involved by supporting pupils in their basketball activity.

The main event, the EMAT Olympic Day, will take place later this year.
