Katy Russell
Lead for Curriculum, Performance and StandardsWith a passion for education that was ignited during my own schooling, and further developed through roles including coaching sports and being a residential houseparent, I continued this vocational path by becoming a qualified teacher in 2004. Since then my motivation has remained, to help provide an exceptional education for all learners to support them in reaching their full potential.
In my career to date, I've undertaken a variety of leadership roles within schools, federations, local authorities and trusts, which have provided valuable experience in managing and motivating staff, students, and other stakeholders.
At EMAT, I'm privileged to collaborate with an exceptional team, focusing on curriculum development, teaching and learning practice, and effective assessment across our schools. During the challenges of the pandemic, I led the creation of an ambitious curriculum framework by staff representing all our primary schools, which represents our collective vision and values, whilst also being adapted and updated as an evolving body of work.
Away from work, you'll often find me in or on water, either swimming in open water events, paddle boarding or surfing waves on the Gower coast. I also enjoy watching musicals, bands and football - all live events which are enhanced by the collective audience experience.
