EMAT Olympic Day 2021

East Midlands Academy Trust and The Harefield Academy hosted an Olympic Day, supported by GB Olympians, on Wednesday 23rd June 2021.

Summer 2 term saw the Trust’s first ever Olympic Day event, in partnership with the GB Olympian Association. Hosted at The Harefield Academy on June 23rd, we saw around 200 pupils from EMAT school, Harefield and two Harefield feeder primary schools compete in a range of primary and secondary sporting and athletics events.

Thanks to the partnership with the GB Olympian Association, the competitors were delighted to have been cheered on by Joslyn Hoyte-Smith, Bronze medal-winning relay runner at Moscow 1980 and chair of the GB Olympian Association, Haig Oundjian, the sponsor of The Harefield Academy and 1971 European bronze medalist and a three-time British national figure skating champion, double Olympian and runner Marilyn Okoro, 200m runner Louise Collins who competed at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, and sprinter and former Harefield Academy pupil Rion Pierre.

The day's event was hosted by broadcasting host Dave Fulton and included sports such as basketball, football, relays, long jump and a range of multi-sporting events for primary pupils.
